Vol. 86 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment of Untrained Teachers.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the number of untrained persons who, during the ten years ended on March 31st, 1942, have been admitted to the service of the Department under Rules 73 (8) (b) and 73 (8) (c) respectively, the number under each section who have in the meantime successfully completed a course of training in a recognised training college, and the number in each section whose services have been dispensed with owing to their failure to comply with the conditions on which they were originally admitted; further, to ask the Minister whether, in view of the number of trained teachers who, according to official statements, are still without permanent employment, he will consider the advisability of discontinuing the admission of untrained persons to the service under the provisions of the above-mentioned rules.

The statistics which the Deputy has asked for are being prepared by my Department and will be supplied to him as soon as possible.
