Vol. 88 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Iron Scrap Exports.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what percentage of the iron scrap exported through the Port of Cork during the nine months ended 30th September was capable of being utilised at the steel works at Haulbowline when that industry is resumed; further, if he will state whether he has information as to when that industry will resume.

I am not in a position to give the percentage asked for in the first part of the Deputy's question. As regards the second part of the question, I am unable to say when the industry will resume, but every effort is being made to have manufacturing operations restarted without delay.

Will the Minister deny that 816 tons of iron scrap were exported, in the nine months ended the 30th September, from the Port of Cork?

That is a separate question.

That is the question I put down.

It is not the question on the Order Paper.

It is the question I put down, but the figures have been left out. There were 816 tons of scrap exported. I want to know what proportion of that scrap could be used at Haulbowline, or if this is to continue.
