Vol. 96 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Dering estate, Dunmore, County Galway, was taken over by the Congested Districts Board in 1911; that portion of this estate, including the town of Dunmore and the townland of Clooneen, was vested in 1915 and 1916, when the remainder was taken over by the Land Commission but is not vested; and, if so, if he will state when it is proposed to have this portion of the estate vested, as the bog roads, passages and drains are in very derelict condition and require immediate attention.

The estate of Neal, Longmore and Dering, County Galway, was vested in the Congested Districts Board on 25th March, 1915. It is a big estate, comprising over 11,000 acres, situated in a large number of townlands. A substantial portion of the estate was revested in the tenants many years ago. The residue taken over by the Land Commission on the dissolution of the board in 1923 (including the townland of Cloonen) has reached the stage of having been scheduled for resale to the tenants—that is to say, the necessary improvement works thereon have been completed.

If the Deputy will be good enough to let the Land Commission have specific particulars of the bog roads, passages and drains he mentions as still requiring attention, inquiries will be made. Without such particulars it is not practicable to identify the matters in question. Every effort is now being made to complete the resale of this and other old estates of the former Congested Districts Board.
