Vol. 102 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices of Wheat, Beet and Milk.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that, at a recent meeting of South Tipperary County Council, a resolution was adopted unanimously asking for increases in the prices of wheat, beet and milk (viz., 10/- a barrel on wheat, 10/-a ton on beet and 3d. a gallon on milk); and if so, if he will state what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I have seen a copy of the resolution mentioned by the Deputy. The prices for wheat of the 1946 crop were fixed by the Emergency Powers (Cereals) Order, 1946, made on the 12th June, 1946. No alteration in these prices is contemplated. As regards milk prices, it is not proposed to depart from the terms of the White Paper recently issued on the subject. I do not fix the price of beet.

Is the Minister aware that that resolution was sent to every county council and that very satisfactory replies have been received so far? It was a unanimous resolution passed by the County Tipperary County Council (South Riding). It was sent to the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Industry and Commerce. As we are having a ten weeks' recess, and as I consider that this is the most important question asked here to-day, in view of the Minister's unsatisfactory reply, with your permission I will raise the question on the Adjournment.
