Vol. 103 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of Regional Sanatoria.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the present position concerning the erection of three regional sanatoria under the Tuberculosis (Establishment of Sanatoria) Act, 1945; and also how far the work on these sanatoria has progressed to date.

Sites for the Dublin Regional Sanatorium and Galway Regional Sanatorium have been acquired. A preliminary Order notifying my intention to acquire a site at Cork has been made.

Draft working drawings for the Dublin institution have been completed and approved. Working drawings, i.e., contract drawings, for the major portion of this institution are also completed. This is a work of very considerable magnitude involving the designs for 38 separate buildings, many of them multi-storied, with incidental mechanical, electrical and medical services.

A contract for the development works, i.e., water mains, sewers, ducts for electrical and mechanical services, roads, etc., has been let and work on this contract is in progress.

It was decided to undertake the preparation of full working drawings for the Dublin institution in the first instance as the principles established in the construction of this institution would govern, to a large extent, the designs for the Cork and Galway sanatoria.

I should like to ask the Minister if he saw a report in the newspapers of a statement by the assistant city manager at the Grangegorman Mental Hospital Committee that this place has been acquired by Aer Lingus and if he has anything to say on that matter?

The Deputy put down a question last week on that matter which I answered categorically. I am not responsible for what the assistant city manager may say.
