Vol. 104 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Labourers' Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that considerable dissatisfaction exists in connection with an annexe which has been built to labourers' cottages for which an additional weekly rent charge of 1/- has been made; that the work of building these annexes is poorly executed and badly finished; that rain comes in on them and that they are too small; and if he will have the matter examined with a view to ensuring that these defects will be remedied.

The Deputy's question presumably refers to a scheme formulated by the Commissioner for Dublin County Council for the provision of annexes to 87 council cottages in the Finglas-Tolka area. Work on the scheme was commenced in July last and is now about three-quarters completed. I am not aware of any complaints that the annexes are too small or that they are badly constructed.

Did the Parliamentary Secretary make any investigations before he came to the conclusion that there has not been any dissatisfaction?

No representations were received. If complaints are made, the matter will be examined.

I happened to be in Finglas with another Deputy and nearly every tenant in the place complained.
