Vol. 104 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of County Dublin Land.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state why an area of three roods and 16 perches of land, the property of Michael Kelly, Castle Road, Saggart, was acquired for the erection of a labourer's cottage; if he is aware that Mr. Kelly, who is a working-class man, purchased this land to build a house for himself and his family; and further, that there are many acres of land in the Saggart area which could have been acquired for cottages.

On the 10th October, 1946, I confirmed a Compulsory Purchase Order made by the Commissioner for Dublin County Council for the acquisition of land for the erection of approximately 1,000 cottages. The Order as confirmed included the site referred to by the Deputy. It appears from the report of the inspector that the site was purchased by the present owner for the purpose of providing a house for himself but he informed the inspector on the occasion of his inspection that he could not afford to build on the site and that he was, therefore, waiving his objection.
