Vol. 104 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of Cottages at Clondalkin.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state what provision has been made for the erection of cottages for the working class in Clondalkin area; the reasons why the site suggested by the commissioner at the recent inquiry was turned down; and what efforts are being made to acquire an alternative site.

A survey of the housing needs of County Dublin disclosed that 49 houses are required in the Clondalkin area for the accommodation of working-class families. The compulsory purchase Order on which I issued my decision in October last made provision originally for the acquisition of a site of nine acres in Clondalkin which was intended to accommodate the required number of cottages. I excluded the site from my confirming Order mainly because it would be incapable of a thoroughly satisfactory development for housing purposes. I understand that the commissioner administering the affairs of the Dublin County Council is taking steps to select a site in this area which will accommodate the required number of cottages, and I am awaiting the submission of his proposals.
