Vol. 104 No. 15

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: No. 1, No. 6, with which will be taken the Money Resolution circulated in the White Paper; Nos. 5, 3, 4, 2.

May I ask when the motion in the names of Deputy Cogan and myself will be taken? Is there a chance it will be discussed this evening or to-morrow? This motion deals with the position of the farming community in relation to the acquisition of machinery and the speed with which spring work can be got over. I was glad to see that the Taoiseach dealt with that matter at a meeting in Mallow last Sunday. It is a matter of national importance and I think that the Government should give time to have it discussed this evening or to-morrow. There may be ways and means by which spring work may be accelerated by having the assistance of the Government in different ways and in trying to harness any machinery that may be available for the farmers—would there be any chance of taking it to-morrow?

The Deputy will have ample opportunity for expressing his views upon the items down for discussion to day or to-morrow.

I think, Sir, that this is an important matter.

If you think you are going to be allowed to forestall you are making a big mistake.

There will be opportunities for Deputies to raise this matter on the Vote on Account.

The appropriate Minister will hardly be present and I think a proper discussion would be much better on this specific motion. I imagine that if we were allowed to discuss it again on the Estimates there are ways and means of getting a certain amount of tractors and machinery with the help of the Government.

The Deputy may not discuss the motion for which he has asked permission.

I want to know if we could raise it on the Estimates?

On the Vote on Account?

You could nearly raise anything on it now.

We are supposed to give notice of what we are going to raise on the Vote on Account, but the Government is not restricted.

If that is a reflection on the Chair——

The social services were raised yesterday. The Minister replied.

It was nearly time, Sir, that he replied.
