Vol. 105 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clondalkin Fuel Depôt.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he consulted the local parish council in Clondalkin before setting up the present emergency fuel depôt; if he is aware that this depôt is not suitable for the needs of the locality; if he will state the reasons why his Department refused to allow the local parish council to deal with the situation; and if his Department refused to give the parish council permission to purchase turf.

There is no foundation for the suggestion that my Department refused to allow the Clondalkin Parish Council to deal with the fuel situation there during the recent bad weather, or refused to give the council permission to purchase turf. Had the parish council approached my Department in the matter, their assistance would have been welcomed. I am not clear as to the particular depôt to which the question refers as no fuel depôt was set up by my Department in Clondalkin.
