Vol. 105 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Revision of Dáil Constituencies.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state when legislation will be introduced to deal with the revision of the Dáil constituencies.

The Dáil constituencies must be revised by the Oireachtas not later than December, 1949, and legislative proposals will be introduced in Dáil Éireann before that date.

We know that the constituencies must be revised before December, 1949, but can the Parliamentary Secretary give any indication when legislation in connection with this matter will be introduced? Will it be in six or 12 months' time?

I am not able to say at the moment when this legislation will be introduced. The report of the census of population did not give figures sufficient to enable any final decision to be made.

Is the matter under consideration?

The answer is in the affirmative.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary consider communicating, either to the House or to the country, tentative proposals at an early date so that submissions might be made by persons with local knowledge in the way of amendments to these tentative proposals, which will be valuable for securing equity between all the Parties?

I am not able to state now whether or not that is possible.
