I move that the Committee agree with the Seanad in amendment No. 2:—
Section 8.—In page 4, line 22, Section 8 (1), after the words "local body" the words "county council" inserted.
During the course of the discussion in the Seanad it was suggested that a number of other interests should be represented on the Central Library Council.
Therefore we agreed to provide that the Central Library Council should act as a county council in respect of Section 58 of the Local Government Act of 1925, whereby county councils may appoint as many committees as they think fit. They may delegate certain functions to them. This amendment is inserted with the object of securing the friendly interest and the advice of the teaching profession in general— primary teachers, secondary teachers and vocational teachers. It would be possible under this section for the Central Council to appoint a subcommittee to which it could delegate some of its work. That is the purpose of this amendment and of the amendment No. 3.
