Vol. 111 No. 5

Order of Business.

Before the Order of Business is taken——

Is this a point of order?

Yes, if you please, Sir, I must take exception to the fact that while the Minister for Agriculture was taking up the attention of the House you passed my question over as if I had failed to ask it.

It is proposed to take the business in the following order: No. 4—Votes Nos. 53, 54 and 41.

The Chair had no comment to make on whose fault it was, but the question was not listened to when it was called.

How could I put a question when the Minister for Agriculture was speaking?

I did not say who was responsible for the question not being put.

The Chair implied that I had no interest in the question.

If Deputies are dissatisfied with the conduct of the Chair they know their remedy.

I have been profoundly dissatisfied with the conduct of the Chair for a long time.

If, as he says, the Deputy has been dissatisfied with the conduct of the Chair for a long time, he should before now have put down a motion, which is the only way of expressing dissatisfaction.

The motion should be in the House and not outside.

There is no dissatisfaction with the Chair except so far as Ministers are given privileges which are not extended to other Deputies.

I am taking the statement of the Deputy who said that for a long time he has been dissatisfied with the conduct of the Chair.

It is the highest tribute to the Chair.

You remember the time when the Chair was openly flouted by Deputy Dillon who turned his back on the Chair?

I have endeavoured to give the Order of Business twice already. The order is No. 4 on the Order Paper (Votes 53, 54 and 41). Public Business will not be interrupted for the taking of Private Deputies' Business.
