Vol. 115 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sailors and Soldiers Land Trust Tenancies.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, as a result of the further representations made to him regarding the hardship inflicted on dependents of deceased tenants of dwellinghouses owned by the Sailors and Soldiers Land Trust through the refusal of the trust to permit the dependents to continue in occupation after the death of the tenant and his wife, he will consider the whole matter with a view to the stoppage of evictions by the trust from those houses pending a satisfactory solution of the whole problem.

Discussions with the Irish Sailors and Soldiers Land Trust regarding the future administration of trust property are pending. Important legal issues and matters of Government policy are involved. It would not, therefore, be either practicable or desirable at this stage to take special action on this particular aspect of trust administration on the lines suggested by the Deputy. I shall, however, do all I possibly can to expedite arrangements for the discussions and to have the future position clarified with the least possible delay.
