Vol. 118 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Roscommon Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the name. acreage and location of each of the estates in Roscommon at present in the hands of the Land Commission; (b) the dates on which these estates were acquired; and (c) when it is proposed to allocate them.

There are approximately 12,300 acres of land in hands on 104 estates in County Roscommon. This area comprises, for the most part, the undivided portion of some 30,000 acres which came into the possession of the Land Commission in the course of the last 20 years. Most of the land is bog or waste and it is not possible to state when or how much of it can be disposed of.

There are difficulties and objections in the way of supplying in respect of each individual parcel on hands the detailed information requested, but if the Deputy is concerned with any particular estate and will communicate with me, I will see what can be done.

Will the Minister state whether in his opinion 20 years would be a long period to reach a decision with regard to certain of these estates?

It is a long time.

Is there any hope that a decision will be given within the next 20 years?

I think so.
