Vol. 121 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Election of Lord Mayor of Dublin.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has now completed the examination of the question of the election of a Lord Mayor of Dublin as fixed by the Dublin Corporation to take place on the 26th June; and, if so, what decision he has reached in the matter.

I am advised that the city council has no power to hold a quarterly meeting and elect a lord mayor on the 26th June next; that the election of a lord mayor must take place at the first quarterly meeting to be held in compliance with Section 10 (1) of the Local Elections Act, 1927, viz., on the 10th day after the local election to be held on the 20th September next; and that the present lord mayor will continue in office between the 26th June and the date of the first quarterly meeting to be held as aforesaid.
