Vol. 126 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a scheme (No. 727) for the cleaning of the Cross river under the Local Authorities (Works) Act has been submitted to his Department by the Roscommon County Council; and, if so, whether he is prepared to give the necessary authority to commence work.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a scheme (No. 731) under the Local Authorities (Works) Act for the cleaning of the Clonbeggane river has been submitted to his Department by the Roscommon County Council; and, if so, whether he will sanction the scheme so that the necessary work can be completed while weather conditions are favourable.

With your permission, a Chinn Chomhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 34 and 35 together.

The two schemes, Nos. 727 and 731, have been included in the programme of works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, proposed by the Roscommon County Council for the current financial year. These schemes with others included in the programme are at present under consideration and a decision thereon will issue as soon as possible.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether his Department has received a proposal under the Local Authorities (Works) Act from Cork County Council to relieve the flooding of the county road at Coomerkane, Glengarriff; and, if so, when he proposes to sanction it.

A scheme to relieve flooding of a county road at Coomerkane was included in the programme of works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act submitted by the Cork County Council for the western division of the county for the year 1951-52. The scope of the scheme has been reduced so as to confine expenditure to work of lasting utility calculated to afford relief and protection from flooding on the stretch of road in question and the scheme, as so modified, has been approved.
