Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Conveyance of Mail.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the total amount paid to Córas Iompair Éireann for the conveyance of mails to and from (a) Cork-Skibbereen; (b) Bandon-Bantry, and the estimated cost of performing this service by his Department with their own transport and postmen drivers.

The conveyance of mails by road in the West Cork area is undertaken by Córas Iompair Éireann as part of a general contract between the company and the Department for the conveyance of mails over the company's entire system.

The amount paid to Córas Iompair Éireann for the services in question is £8,106 and the estimated cost to the Department if the services were performed by departmental transport is £5,000, approximately.
