Vol. 126 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether, in view of the keen demand for land locally, he will request the Land Commission to review their decision not to take action to acquire the Dempsey lands at Ballysoogan, Rathangan, County Kildare.

asked the Minister for Lands whether, in view of the keen demand for land locally, he will request the Land Commission to review their decision not to take action to acquire the Dowling estate at Rathangan, County Kildare (Record No. U. 5276).

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take together Questions Nos. 36 and 37.

In both these cases the Land Commission had inquiries made with a view to the acquisition of the lands but decided not to take any further action. As the decision in both cases was arrived at as recently as last year when the commissioners were in possession of all the facts I do not propose to request the Land Commission to reconsider the matter at this stage.

Can the Minister say on what grounds the commissioners decision was based?

I am afraid I would have to get notice of that question.

Will the Minister kindly make some inquiries and perhaps communicate with me if it is possible to give the information?

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware of the fact that there is acute demand for the acquisition and division of lands in the Ballitore and surrounding districts in the County Kildare, and whether the Land Commission propose to institute proceedings for the acquisition and division of large estates in this area.

I am aware that the people in the Ballitore district are no less clamant in their desire for land acquisition and allotment than are the residents of most rural areas. The Land Commission have instituted proceedings for the acquisition of two estates in the Ballitore district.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what estates in County Kildare are at present the subject of acquisition proceedings by the Land Commission, and the acreage and location of each estate.

The Land Commission have proceedings for the acquisition or resumption of 3,324 acres on 18 estates or holdings in County Kildare.

There are objections in the way of supplying the detailed information requested, but if the Deputy is concerned with any particular estate and communicates with me I will let him have particulars.
