Vol. 126 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Termination of Vocational Teacher's Appointment.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that Mr. Seán Mulready had his appointment as part-time teacher for the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee terminated without the express decision of the committee; that it deprived a married man with two children of a means of livelihood and if he will have the whole matter investigated at the earliest possible moment.

The records of the Department indicate that Mr. Seán Mulready served as a part-time teacher of Irish and mathematics under the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee in the school sessions 1945/46, 1946/47, 1947/48 and as a part-time teacher of Irish and general subjects in the school sessions 1948/49 and 1949/50. I have ascertained that Mr. Mulready's reappointment as part-time teacher was not terminated without the express decision of the committee and that his case was fully considered at the committee's meeting of the 18th May, 1950, when the recommendations of the various school principals for appointments of part-time teachers for the following session were under review.

Would the Minister indicate whether the investigation included the reputed communistic activities of this gentleman about whom Deputy Cowan is so concerned.

That has nothing to do with the matter.
