Vol. 127 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Surrender of Telephone Installations.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether any telephone subscribers have surrendered their installations since the inception of the recent increased charges; and, if so, the number of such subscribers, and, further, whether any applicants for new telephones have revoked their application; and, if so, the number.

Seventeen subscribers have given notice of intention to surrender their installations expressly because of the increase in charges. One waiting applicant has revoked his application expressly for the same reason.

There was no increase in the total number of telephone lines ceased during the quarter ended 30th September last, as compared with the previous quarter nor has there so far been any noticeable increase in the proportion of applicants who decline service when offered. The total of applications received in 1951 (to a recent date) is 5,481 compared with 5,509 for the same period in 1950.
