Vol. 127 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Telephone Service.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is prepared to provide telephone facilities in the villages of Ballinrostig, Gortroe, Mount Uniacke, Clonmult and Ballindangan which are near the insemination centre of the Mitchelstown Co-operative Society, as a telephone service is absolutely essential to the dairy farmers of those areas.

Gortroe, Mount Uniacke and Ballindangan Post Offices are not scheduled for attention in the call office programme for the current financial year, but their claims will be considered in the preparation of next year's programme.

The provision of public telephone facilities at Ballinrostig and Clonmult where there are no post offices would not be warranted.

Is it proposed to conclude Question Time at 4.30 p.m.?

It had been agreed to finish the questions.

Standing Orders have not been suspended.

It was put to the House and agreed to without opposition.

The House did not agree and it was not put to the House.

Had it been put, I should have objected immediately. I inquired at 4 o'clock what it was intended to do. I am prepared to agree to continue with questions until 5 o'clock, by which time most of them should be disposed of, but I am not prepared to agree to go beyond that hour.

It was assumed by the Chair that questions would be finished, in accordance with the ruling of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges.

I never heard of the ruling.

I understand that it was agreed by the Committee on Procedure and Privileges in a previous Dáil that all Thursday's questions would be finished.

Even if there were 500?

I am not saying that that rule is going to apply after this. Deputies are too curious.

In fairness to Deputies, questions should not go over the third week.

That is true. Deputies are entitled to an answer, written or oral.
