Vol. 127 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shop Hours of Trading.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the fact that persons who come into Galway City after their day's work from the surrounding country districts, as well as travellers coming off the evening train, are inconvenienced by the fact that confectionery, fruit and tobacco shops are closed after 8 p.m., he will consider exempting shopkeepers trading in these goods in Galway City and Salthill from compliance with the early closing regulations.

Many representations have been made to me from different parts of the country for an alteration of the hours prescribed under the Shops (Hours of Trading on Weekdays) Order, 1947. I am having the whole question examined, and all parties concerned will have an opportunity of submitting their views on any changes proposed to be made.
