Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the Jackson estate, Killooley, Mount Bolus, Tullamore, County Offaly, with a view to division amongst the local smallholders and tenants, and other deserving applicants for land in the area and, if so, with what result; and, further, if he will indicate what action, if any, the Land Commission has taken to date on this matter.

The Deputy was informed in reply to a question on 17th April last that the Land Commission had decided not to acquire this estate. The decision was taken after the usual inquiries had been made.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the lands of Mr. Hartnett, Lemonfield, Crecora, County Limerick, for division amongst the uneconomic holders and landless men of the area; and, if so, with what result.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the lands of the representatives of Mr. Charles O'Grady. Flemingstown, Bohernagore, Ardpatrick, County Limerick, for division amongst the uneconomic holders and landless men of the area; and, if so, with what result.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the lands of Mr. John C. Ryan, Oldtown, Hospital, County Limerick, for division amongst the uneconomic holders and landless men of the area; and, if so, with what result.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I will take together Questions Nos. 69 and 70.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of the lands in question but they are having inquiries made.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what action, if any, has been taken by the Land Commission to acquire and divide the lands of Mrs. M. Colton, Mullagharush, Daingean, County Offaly, whether he is aware that these lands have been let to large landowners for some time past and that there is acute congestion in the area and whether the Land Commission have taken any steps towards the solution of this problem.

The Land Commission have instituted proceedings for the acquisition of these lands. If the proceedings are successful the claims of all eligible persons or bodies will be considered before allotment takes place.
