Vol. 130 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The Cardboard Box Industry.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that a number of people are unemployed in the cardboard box industry due to imports from the continent; and, if so, if he will take steps to prevent a continuance of these imports.

Representations have been made to me that because of the scale of imports of cardboard containers there is unemployment in the cardboard box industry. The question of the steps that might be taken to remedy the position is under consideration.

Is the Minister aware that negotiations have gone on over the past three years in regard to these imports and is it not time a decision were come to?

Is it true to say that the butter coming from New Zealand is enclosed in wrappers?

The total quantity of cardboard imported in 1951 was less than in 1950 so that the situation does not appear to be deteriorating.
