Vol. 130 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mother and Child Welfare Scheme.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state whether he proposes to introduce the promised mother and child welfare scheme during the present session, and if proposals to amend the Health Act, 1947, are required in order to enable him to do so.

The question of providing a scheme of improved health services, including a mother and child health service, is receiving my attention at present. Until final details of the scheme have been determined it is impossible to say what legislation may be necessary.

Will the Minister say whether he has read my question carefully and, if so, will he answer the second part of the question? Will he also say whether it will be necessary to get the prior approval of Deputy Dr. Browne before introducing this scheme?

No, nor of Mr. Butler either.

Can the Minister say if there will be a scheme in this year?

I certainly hope so.

And we shall not run away from it either.

Good man.
