asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of the year 1951-52 the amounts respectively allocated and expended for (a) erection of new primary schools and (b) improvements to primary schools.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Primary Schools' Expenditure.
The total amounts of the grants allocated by the Department for (a) the erection of new primary schools and (b) the enlargement and improvement of existing primary schools during the financial year 1951-52 were £755,410 and £162,140 respectively.
The total expenditure by the Commissioners of Public Works on the erection of new primary schools and on the enlargement and improvement of existing primary schools for the period from 1st April, 1951, to 27th March, 1952, was £539,080. Information is available at present only in respect of expenditure up to the latter date.
I am given to understand that the Commissioners of Public Works are not in a position to give separate figures relating to (a) expenditure on new schools and (b) expenditure on the enlargement and improvement of existing schools.
