Vol. 132 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tenders for Carpets.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (a) if tenders were invited for the carpets used in Iveagh House, Dublin, and Dublin Castle; (b) how many tenders were submitted; (c) how many tenders were submitted from the Irish carpet manufacturers, and (d) the name of the manufacturers who secured the contract.

Tenders were not invited for the supply of the carpets referred to, the contracts for which were placed with Messrs. Morton Sundour Fabrics, Limited, for manufacture in their factory at Killybegs, County Donegal. The contracts were placed with this firm as being the only firm manufacturing in the country capable of supplying the special type of carpet needed within the time required.

Is it a fact that these carpets were ordered from an English firm?

The reply is quite different from that. It is not an English firm. The factory is in Killybegs, County Donegal.

I am very glad to hear that.
