Vol. 132 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coal Prices in Cork.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, further to his reply to a question on the 13th May, 1952, he is aware that the coal referred to by the Cork County Manager in his statement to the county council was grade I quality and was used in open fires and for cooking purposes and delivered from 32 to 90 miles from Cork City at the prices stated and, further, if he is aware that the Cork Mental Hospital accepted a tender for 50 tons of house coal on the 15th April, 1952, at £5 16s. per ton; and, if so, if he will now ensure that the people of Cork City will not be asked to continue paying £8 5s. per ton for coal.

I am having the matters referred to by the Deputy investigated and when further particulars are available I will consider whether it is necessary to revise the existing maximum retail price fixed for coal in Cork.
