Vol. 132 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether he has yet received any proposals from the Offaly County Council for the drainage of the Little Brosna river under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949; and, if so, whether he has sanctioned the proposals and allocated the amount required for the purpose of carrying out this urgent work and also whether he will request one of his engineering inspectors to visit and inspect the area and report on the merits of the scheme.

No such proposals have been received.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the total estimated cost of drainage schemes submitted to date under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, and sanctioned or still awaiting sanction for the current year for the Counties of (1) Laoighis, (2) Offaly and the reason for the allocations of the small sums of £5,000 and £1,000, respectively, to the counties mentioned and whether any more money will be made available this year for such work.

The total estimated cost of schemes included in the draft programmes of works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, for the year 1952-53, submitted by the Laoighis and Offaly County Councils is £70,360 and £27,419, respectively. These programmes are at present under examination in the Department.

The grant allocations so far notified to county councils are interim amounts and further allocations for the year will be made in due course.
