Vol. 133 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Special Employment Schemes.

asked the Mini-for Finance if he will state what amounts have been allocated towards schemes in West Cork by the Special Employment Schemes Office for the current year.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his Parliamentary Question in this matter on the 5th June, 1952.

A copy of the summer list of bog drainage schemes approved for execution in the County Cork (West) in the current financial year was sent to the Deputy on the 1st July, 1952.

The number of schemes so sanctioned under the heading of bog development numbered only about 13 or 14 and I take it that the expenditure would not run to anything more than £1,500. The amounts were not mentioned, but am I to take it that that is all the money that is being made available for the Cork west district under the heading of bog development schemes through the Parliamentary Secretary's office?

West Cork has got its fair proportion of the amount of money available under that heading.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the inadequacy of the wages payable to workers on schemes promoted by the Special Employment Schemes Office; and, if so, if he will take steps to rectify the position.

I have not received any representations as to the inadequacy of the rates of wages referred to, which are the same as those paid in each county to county council road workers.
