asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the dissatisfaction expressed by the vocational teachers' organisation concerning back pay, he will reconsider the date from which increases will be paid and backdate the increases to 1st April, 1952.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vocational Teachers' Back Pay.
The new scales for vocational teachers take effect from the 1st October, 1952, and the period from that date back to the 15th January, 1951, is already covered by the increases granted to them in July, 1951, pari passu with the increases granted at that time to civil servants.
It is, therefore, not proposed to authorise for vocational teachers retrospective payments in relation to their new scales.
In view of the large number of questions remaining on the Order Paper, to facilitate the Minister I would be prepared to take written answers to the further questions in my name on the Order Paper.
