Vol. 134 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Derryloughan National School District.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of each of the years ending 30th June, 1951, and 1952, the total number of homes in the Derryloughan national school (Roll No. 10661) district of Doochary, County Donegal, and the number of these in which Irish was the language of the home.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the total number of children who came to Derryloughan national school (Roll No. 10661), Doochary, County Donegal, for the first time in each of the years ended the 30th June, 1951, and 1952, and the number of these in each year who knew Irish only or knew Irish better than English.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take questions No. 87 and 88 together.

The number of homes in the school district in each of the school years 1950-51 and 1951-52 was 59 and the number of these homes of which Irish was the language was 47. The number of children coming to the school for the first time in the year 1950-51 was six and of these one knew Irish only or knew Irish better than English. The corresponding numbers for 1951-52 were seven and five.

I wish to refer to questions from the Deputy in regard to this school, to which I replied on 19th June, 1952, when I stated that a further investigation would be made as soon as possible as to whether the conditions for the registration of the school under rule 121(1) of the code were fulfilled. This investigation has now been held and as a result it has been decided to register the school provisionally under rule 121(1) as a Fíor-Ghaeltacht school as from 1st July, 1951.

I am obliged to the Minister.
