Vol. 134 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Transport.

asked the Minister for Education if he is in a position to make a statement with regard to school transport for children in the Gorey rural district and, if not, if he will be able to do so before the onset of winter.

In the absence of full particulars of the children residing in the districts, which the Deputy has in mind, I am not in a position to make a statement in regard to the question of allowing a grant towards the cost of their conveyance to schools in Gorey. I am prepared to have the matter investigated on receipt of an application for a grant together with particulars of the children concerned. As the manager is charged with the direct government of the school, the application should be forwarded through him in the first instance.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware of the necessity to provide transport for the children attending Shanacashel school, Glencar, County Kerry, from Derrynafena; and, if so, if he will consider the matter at an early date.

I have not received any representations regarding the necessity to provide transport for the children attending Shanacashel national school from Derrynafena. If the Deputy will furnish particulars of the children concerned and the distance of their homes from the nearest school I shall arrange to have the matter investigated.
