Vol. 134 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grain Storage Grants.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is prepared to give more substantial grants to farmers for storing grain as it would encourage the growing of more cereals for animal feeding and would not militate against wheat growing.

Mr. Walsh

The Deputy is, no doubt, aware that under the farm buildings scheme substantial grants are provided for the erection of storage accommodation for grain and other farm produce. I do not propose to increase these grants.

I am aware that substantial grants are available but, if the Minister is at all sincere as far as his cereal growing campaign is concerned, he will realise that the one danger facing the farmers is in the matter of storage. By giving substantial grants, he would enable them to enlarge their stores.

Mr. Walsh

The grants are substantial.

That is what you think.
