Vol. 135 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Relief Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will increase the grants for special relief schemes so as to ensure that work will be provided over the Christmas period in the isolated districts of Beara and West Cork generally.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the unemployment which exists in the West Cork area, he will make available in the current financial year grants for special employment schemes to relieve the situation.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to reply to Questions Nos. 10 and 11 together.

The proportionate amount available from the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote has already been allocated to the West Cork area, and it is not proposed to increase it.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether a grant has been sanctioned under the minor relief scheme for the bog road from Bawnes Shleave, Ardgroom, to Micheál O'Hire's bog.

I assume that the proposal in question is one described in the office records as:—

"Repair and extend bog road in the townlands of Barrees and Ardgroom outward from the county road near Morley Cross to a point about 100 yards north-east of Michael Leahy's turf bank."

No grant has been sanctioned for this work in the current programme of minor employment schemes, but it will be considered on its merits in connection with future programmes.
