Vol. 136 No. 7

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Items Nos. 4, 10 and 6. It is proposed that public business be not interrupted to take Private Members' business. In accordance with the arrangements made between the Whips, the Dáil will meet on Wednesday and Thursday next from 2 o'clock until 11.30 p.m.

Questions at 2 o'clock?

Can the Tánaiste say when it is proposed to take the Health Bill?

I think the Minister for Health will be prepared to take it next week, if that is agreeable to the House.

Is it an open question as to when it will be taken?

It will not be taken on Wednesday.

Will time be given for consideration of Motion No. 31 which seeks to establish a select committee to inquire into currency, banking and credit?

It may be necessary to get the report on the metric system first.

The matter has not yet been considered, but I will consider it.

In the meantime, will regard be had to the fate of private Bills, a whole clutch of which are now on the Order Paper for final disposal?

They get priority in Private Members' time, which will be available next week.

The Government are not giving time to-day.

It will be allowed next week.

But not to-day?

No; on Wednesday and Friday next.

Wednesday, at 10 o'clock, instead of 9 o'clock.

Can the Tánaiste give any indication as to the business for next Wednesday?

Mainly the Supplementary Estimates, Defence Bill, Trade Loans Bill, State Guarantees Bill and the National Stud Bill, which is ordered for Thursday.

Might I inquire of the Minister for Justice if he recalls what he said in the course of the debate on one of the Bills outstanding in Private Members' time? I know that the Minister for Local Government said in respect of another Bill still outstanding that he would have a proposal to bring forward this session. The Minister for Justice also said that he would bring forward proposals in due course.

In due course—that is more like it.

Has the "due course" come anywhere near realisation yet?

Mr. Boland

I have to inquire, Deputy.
