Vol. 137 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Comeragh River Fishery.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will take all possible precautions to safeguard the Comeragh river fishery from damage likely to arise from development of the river for hydro-electric generation.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of a proposal to develop a hydro-electric scheme on the Comeragh river, Waterville, and if he will take the necessary steps to ensure that such developments will not injure in any way the fishing industry in the neighbourhood.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 51 and 52 together.

I am aware that the question of developing hydro-electric power on the Comeragh river is in contemplation and that details of flow are being collected. When a scheme is submitted in accordance with Section 4 of theElectricity (Supply) (Amendment) Act. 1945, I will in accordance with Section 11 of that Act take appropriate steps for the protection of and the avoidance of injury to the fisheries of the river.
