Vol. 137 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will indicate the townlands in North Galway to which the E.S.B. propose to extend the rural electrification scheme in the next nine months.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that Menlough area in North Galway has been selected for development under the rural electrification scheme and that it is hoped to extend supply to the townlands in that area in the next nine months.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when it is expected to have the canvass of rural electrification extensions completed in the parishes of Ballina, Ardagh, Killala, Kilfuil, Moygounagh, Crossmolina and Lahardane and what is the likely response in those areas of consumers who are likely to avail of the electric current.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the official canvass of the Ardagh area, which includes part of the parishes of Ballina and Crossmolina, has recently been completed. I am also informed that the official canvass of the other areas referred to in the Deputy's question will commence about the end of this year or early next year. The Deputy will appreciate that it would be quite impossible to forecast what the results of these canvasses may be.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when it is intended to commence work on the rural electrification extensions in the parish of Knockmore and Cloghans.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Knockmore area, which includes Cloghans, has been considered by the board on a number of occasions but has not so far been selected for development under the rural electrification scheme. The area will again be considered for selection in the future but I am unable to state when development is likely to take place.
