Vol. 139 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Insurance Benefit Costs.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the estimated total cost in a full year of the payment of the following hourly rates of benefit under the Insurance (Intermittent Unemployment) Act, 1942: Skilled person, 2/5; unskilled person, 1/8; young person, 8d.

The amount of supplementary benefit paid under the Insurance (Intermittent Unemployment) Act, 1942, in any year depends upon the weather and the volume of employment in the building trade. If supplementary benefit at the hourly rates ?, ? and 8d. had been payable throughout the calendar years ended 31st December, 1951, and 1952, it is estimated that the following amounts would have been payable out of the Supplementary Unemployment Fund:

£

1951

123,500

1952

106,800
