Vol. 143 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway School.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that the Cornamona national school, Galway, is in a deplorable state of disrepair; and, if so, if he will state what steps are being taken for its reconstruction.

I am aware that Cornamona national school, County Galway, is unsuitable. I am advised that it would not be feasible to reconstruct the building to bring it up to modern standards and that the proper solution is the erection of a new school on a new site.

The reverend manager has offered a suitable site for a new school but certain preliminary arrangements, which are being attended to, must be made before the Department will be in a position to sanction a grant towards the cost of erecting the new school. It will necessarily take a considerable time to complete these arrangements but the Department will endeavour to have the case expedited as far as possible.

Arrangements are being made to have some minor works carried out at the present school to make itserviceable pending its replacement by a new school.
