Vol. 143 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laoighis and Offaly Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state if and when he received an application from the county manager for Laoighis and Offaly for grants for the relief of unemployment in urban and rural areas of both counties and if he will furnish particulars, excluding Road Fund grants, of the total amounts applied for under (a) the Local Authorities (Works) Act and (b) other schemes, and indicate the total amounts made available to both counties to date for the purpose mentioned.

Grants for employment schemes are not allocated by me and no application of the nature referred to in the first part of the Deputy's question has been addressed to me. In regard to the second part of the question, the total cost of the schemes under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, submitted to my Department for the current financial year by Laoighis County Council is £41,570. The corresponding figure for Offaly County Council is £4,137. The grants already allocated for works under the Act are £15,000 to Laoighis County Council and £4,000 to Offaly County Council. A further allocation is under consideration in each case.
