Vol. 146 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Louth Housing Needs.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the necessity for housing in the Clogherhead and Baltray areas; if he will state whether proposals for housing for these districts have been received in his Department from the Louth County Council; and, if so, when erection of the houses will commence.

I am aware of the need for housing in the Clogherhead and Baltray areas.

As regards Baltray, sanction for the acceptance by the Louth County Council of a tender for the erection of four cottages issued on the 14th April last. I understand that these houses are at present in progress. There is no proposal for the provision of further houses in Baltray before the Department at present.

The county council submitted proposals for the erection of 16 unserviced houses at Callystown, Clogherhead, in January, 1953. It was subsequently decided to provide serviced cottages and the planning of the scheme is now linked with the provision of sewerage services for the village. It is not possible at this stage to say when work on the houses will commence.
