Vol. 146 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Louth Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the undue delay which has occurred in the building of houses at Castlebellingham, County Louth; if he will state whether this delay was caused by his Department or by the local authority, and when the project may be expected to commence.

I am aware that there has been considerable delay in getting a housing scheme under way in Castle-bellingham. The delay has been due to difficulties in regard to the provision of water and sewerage services for the proposed houses. This problem has been the subject of correspondence and discussions during the past year between representatives of the Department and of the county council. Finally revised house and lay-out plans for the scheme, which were requested by the Department on 27th May last, are awaited. When these plans have been submitted, and approved, the local authority will be authorised to proceed with the construction of the houses on the understanding that there will be as little delay as possible in completing the proposed sewerage scheme to serve the houses.
