Vol. 147 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will have a telephone kiosk erected to serve the residents of the Barrack Hill area of Fermoy, County Cork, and the residents of the new housing schemes on the fringe of the area.

There is already one telephone kiosk in Fermoy and a call office in the local post office. A second kiosk will be provided—probably next year—when the needs of certain towns which have no kiosk at present have been met. I cannot say definitely at this stage where the second kiosk will be erected.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the number of applications for telephones in Limerick City at present outstanding, and when it is expected that these applications will be disposed of.

The number is 30. It is hoped to attend to about half of these within the next month and the remainder within two to three months.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he has proposals for the erection of additional public telephone kiosks in Limerick City under consideration; and, if so, if he will state the proposed location of these kiosks, and when it is expected that they will be in operation.

Proposals are in hand for the erection of additional kiosks at (1) Edward Street, (2) Fort Mary Park/ North Circular Road and (3) South Circular Road/Laurel Hill Avenue. Subject to suitable sites being obtained, it is hoped to have these kiosks in operation before the end of the year.
