asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) if the advertisement in the Irish Press of the 8th September, 1954, extending the latest date for the acceptance of tenders for Belmullet sewerage scheme from 12 noon on Saturday, 28th August, 1954, to 12 noon on Saturday, 11th September, 1954, was published in any other daily paper on the said 8th day of September, or on any prior or subsequent date, or in any provincial newspaper on any date, and, if not, why not, (b) the number of tenders received and accepted as a result of the said advertisement of the 8th September, 1954, (c) if any tender or tenders so received and accepted were lower than all or any of those received and accepted before 12 noon on Saturday, the 28th August, 1954, (d) the figure representing the lowest tender at 12 noon on Saturday, 28th August, 1954, (e) if any tender was received and accepted between the 8th September, 1954, and the 11th September, 1954, the amount of such tender, and, if more than one tender was received, the amount of each such tender, (f) the purpose of the extension of the latest date from 12 noon on Saturday, 28th August, 1954, to the 11th September, 1954, and (g) if he will direct a full inquiry into the conduct of the said scheme.

I am informed that three tenders for the Belmullet sewerage scheme were received prior to the 28th August, 1954, and that the consultant recommended the extension of the time limit. The extension was advertised in the Irish Press and Irish Independent on the 8th September, 1954, but no further tenders were received within the extended time limit. I understand that none of the tenders has yet been accepted.
