Vol. 148 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyduff Ferry Bridge.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether he has sanctioned proposals for the reconstruction of (i) the ferry bridge over the river Feale at Ballyduff, and (ii) the metal bridge over the river Brick at Ballinagar, Lixnaw; and, if so, if he will state the cause of the delay in carrying out the work, as farmers in the parishes of Causeway and Ballyduff suffer great inconvenience because the bridges are closed to heavy traffic.

Approval in principle to the reconstruction of the bridge at (i) of the Deputy's question has been given to the Kerry County Council and a grant towards the cost of this work has been allocated. The county council have yet to submit detailed documents for the actual bridge work but the preparation of these documents must await the results of tests and borings being carried out to establish foundation conditions on the proposed new alignment of the bridge.

The county council have submitted no proposals in relation to the metal bridge near Lixnaw.
