asked the Minister for Lands if he will have Keel mountain, Castlemaine, County Kerry, surveyed with a view to initiating an afforestation scheme there.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Afforestation.
This area was surveyed some considerable time ago and was found to be unsuitable for forestry purposes. If the Deputy is aware, however, of any substantial area being available for forestry purposes, and he communicates with me, I will arrange to have the matter re-examined in the light of more recent developments of forestry technique.
Can the Minister say how much money he intends to spend on these schemes?
I have not got the figure at the moment.
I want to ask the Minister if he can see his way to re-employ the ten men let off in the Dundrum area on the 19th May, 1954—the day after the general election?
They must not have voted rightly. Go bfoirfidh Dia oraibh.
asked the Minister for Lands whether the Forestry Branch of his Department has taken steps to acquire land for forestry purposes in the Cappawhite, Hollyford and Turraheen areas of Tipperary.
A survey of the area in question has been carried out with a view to establishing a State forestry centre there. Offers of land have been received and are at present under consideration.
asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the localities in the rural districts of Galway, Oughterard and Clifden, in which land has been or is in process of being acquired for afforestation purposes, and the number of acres involved in each case.
The following is a summary of the information sought by the Deputy. If he wishes townlands to be specified I would be glad if he would write to me in the matter. The number of townlands involved is considerable.
