Vol. 150 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilcooley State Forest—Damage by Deer.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that a considerable number of deer are using the State forest at Kilcooley, Thurles, County Tipperary, as a refuge, and that at night they are causing great damage to the crops of local farmers, and, if so, if he will take immediate steps to terminate this situation.

I was not aware of the position as indicated by the Deputy and no complaint has been made to my Department. I will, however, have the matter examined and see what can be done.

The Deputy will appreciate that deer can do great damage to young trees and my Department does not preserve the animals nor lay claim to them in any way.
