Vol. 150 No. 12

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Portable Creamery Service.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that 40 small farmers residing at Tulligmore and Tullibeg, Killorglin, County Kerry, applied to the Dairy Disposal Company for the extension of the portable creamery service to their districts, and, if so, if he will make the necessary arrangements.

My Department's records show that in July, 1953, such an application on behalf of 46 farmers in the Tulligbeg, Scrahan and Lonhart areas of County Kerry was forwarded by the Deputy to my predecessor who requested the Dairy Disposal Company to examine the proposal. A travelling creamery service was subsequently provided for the Cromane, Caragh Lake and Glencar districts and the areas now mentioned by the Deputy were, and still are, served by this travelling creamery which stops at Cromane. Since July, 1953, no further representations have been made to the company in the matter by farmers in the Tulligmore and Tulligbeg areas which are, in the company's view, now adequately catered for at the stop at Cromane. Furthermore, as the Deputy is aware, the travelling creamery is being operated by the company as a purely experimental measure and in view of the large area which it serves, the company considers that any alteration at this stage in the location of the existing stopping places would not only upset the experiment but would also inconvenience a large number of farmers in adjoining areas.
